Hyattsville Organizations Answer President Obama’s call for a National Day of Service With a Month Long Initiative!
Washington, DC February 9, 2009 Heeding the call of President Obama to renew America, Mosaic at Metro Apartments in Hyattsville along with affiliates – The City of Hyattsville, Hyattsville CDC, Towers at UTC, Hyattsville Business & Professional Association and Bally’s Fitness are pleased to announce “Feeding the Spirit of Community”, a month long community-wide food drive that will support the Capital Area Food Bank in the Washington, DC area.
“In the spirit of theme that arose from the Obama Biden campaign “Yes We Can”, we know that by donating just one can a person can make a difference,” said Robert Grealy, Area Vice President for Equity Residential, the largest publicly traded owner, operator and developer of multifamily housing in the United States. The mission of this effort is to fill a two bedroom apartment at Mosaic at Metro with non-perishable foods, which will feed a lot of families.
The drop off for collections is at the Mosaic at Metro leasing office, located at 2970 Belcrest Road, next to the Dunkin Donuts at the Prince George’s Plaza Metro Station in Hyattsville. The focus for the collection is the week of February 15 – 20th. All residents and organizations are welcome to support this initiative.
“We know working together, residents in the City of Hyattsville can make a difference. It is admirable and inspiring to see our corporate partners and area organizations take the initiative to help our neighbors throughout the region during these challenging times,” said Bill Gardiner, Mayor of Hyattsville. “The area food banks need our donations, and this is a great way for us to help others as a community,” said Gardiner.
Many area food banks are experiencing the troubling combination of increasing demand in the face of decreasing donations “While December food drives are a tremendous resource to the nation’s food banks, they need help beyond the holiday season especially during tough economic times like these,” Said Grealy. The Equity Residential Foundation will also make a donation of $1,000 to the Capital Area Food Bank and each of the designated food banks in markets throughout the nation.
